The Comfy Goniometer Elbow Splint was designed by a team of therapists and engineers to increase elbow extension following CVA, surgery, injury or neurological complications. It is also excellent for individuals with strong flexor tone. The splint has the same benefits as serial casting and allows for progressive extension of the elbow in 10 degree increments, but does so in a comfortable, adjustable and removable splint form. The goniometer hinge allows one to set a range within which the elbow can flex and extend and it can also lock at a desired degree of extension.
Therapeutic uses of the Comfy Goniometer Elbow Orthosis:
1. Graduated extension of the elbow
2. Treatment of non-fixed contractures of the elbow
3. Helps restrict arthritic changes and deformity related to neuromuscular impairment
4. Positions the flaccid elbow and arm in functional position
5. Maintains skin integrity by absorbing moisture, allowing air circulation and preventing skin maceration.
Contra-Indications:
1. Patient has circulatory problems
2. Pressure areas or skin irritations appear
3. Patient has persistent pain in the wrist, fingers or hand
4. Patient has increased edema, redness or blisters
5. Patient has fixed flexion contractures
